Margaret Gennaro, M.D., Holistic Therapies for Adults and Children

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Who is Dr. Gennaro?

Dr. Gennaro is a holistic physician with nearly a quarter of a century of medical experience and utilizes a variety of healing techniques. She was introduced to holistic medicine as a conventional pediatrician when she was sick with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and irritable bowel syndrome. This whole experience changed her life personally and professionally. Subsequently, she started her holistic practice in March 2000 and converted from being a primary care physician to a specialist who treats adults and children with chronic problems.

  • What should I expect during my first visit?

Dr. Gennaro asks you to complete the extensive patient history in advance and bring it in with you to your first appointment. After reviewing you or your child’s history, Dr. Gennaro performs a physical exam looking for signs of hormonal imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. Various conventional and alternative laboratory tests also can be utilized to gather more information.

Dr. Gennaro then uses a non-invasive technique based on your body’s Autonomic Nervous System that is used by holistic physicians internationally called “muscle testing” (or kinesiology) to assess which glands and organs are weak and what are the “root causes” of your illness/chief complaint (viruses, bacteria, yeast, heavy metals, toxic chemicals, emotional traumas, parasites, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, vaccines, structural abnormalities, etc.). Muscle testing utilizes an outstretched arm muscle to ascertain any of the above imbalances. It is akin to your body serving as a “truth detector machine” which gives Dr. Gennaro invaluable information on how to create a healing program for you. More information on muscle testing is available from the book, Your Body Doesn’t Lie, by John Diamond, M.D. and Power vs Force by David Hawkins, M.D. The technique she most closely follows is Autonomic Response Testing created by Deitrich Klinghardt, M.D., Ph.D. She then customizes a plan using herbs, homeopathic remedies, supplements, and various energetic healing techniques to eliminate those toxins and to help your body, mind and spirit balance so that you can heal.

  • What else should I keep in mind for my visit?

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR FRAGRANCES OR ANY PERSONAL ITEMS
THAT ARE PERFUMED. We have staff and patients at the
office who are chemically sensitive. Thank you.

  • Does Dr. Gennaro have experience in working with people on the Autistic Spectrum?

Yes. If your child is on the Autistic Spectrum including ADD/ADHD/PDD/Aspergers/LD/OCD and issues such as Tourette’s and Seizure disorders, Dr. Gennaro can review which laboratory tests might be appropriate and helpful. (If you are a newcomer to the maze of information on this, you might wish to invest in Dr. Gennaro’s 1 and 1/4 hour audio DVD (must be played in a computer which can play DVD’s) including extensive lecture outline notes about her holistic approach to ASD. In that case, please send a check for $15 made payable to Margaret Gennaro, M.D. and your address and we’ll send it to you. By knowing some of the basic concepts, you will save time during our visit.) (If you don’t have a computer that can play DVD’s, we have an audio tape version but you’ll need to let us know.)

  • Do you accept medical insurance?

While Dr. Gennaro does not accept insurances, if you have a PPO, you might be able to be reimbursed as Dr. Gennaro is an out-of-network physician. Also, if you have set up a Flexible Spending Account with your employer, you may get reimbursed from that. You will be provided a Superbill with the appropriate codes that you may submit for reimbursement. She has opted out of Medicare so you will not be able to get reimbursed.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, we ask that you provide at least 48 hours notice. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice and we cannot find a replacement for you, our policy is to charge a fee for the missed appointment.

  • Do you offer supplements?

Dr. Gennaro often uses products that are sold only through health professionals. You may pay for the office visit and supplements (if needed) by cash, check (made payable to Margaret Gennaro, M.D.) or credit card (MasterCard, Visa and Discover).
